August 1928 Born in Fukuchiyama, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan
1948 Enrolled in Nagasaki Medical Specialized School, Division on Pharmaceutical Sciences (later School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nagasaki University)
1951 Graduated from the school above
1951 Laboratory Assistant at Nagasaki University, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences
1958 Research Associate at the school above(~1963)
1960 Recieved a Doctrate degree for Organic Chemistry from Nagoya University
1960 Researcher at Princeton University on Fulbright Scholarship Program(~1963)
1963 Associate Professor at Nagoya University Water Research Laboratory of the Faculty of Science
1965 Senior Research Fellow at Princeton University(~1982)
1981 Visiting Professor at Boston University(concurrent position)(~2000)
1982 Senior Research Fellow of the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole
2001 Resigned from the laboratory above and has been continuing research at his house in Massachusetts
2007 Recieved the Asahi prize (Asahi Shinbun Cultural Foundation)
2007 Recieved Nagasaki University Distinguished Almuni Award
2008 Recieved the Nobel Prize in Chemistry
